............................................................................................ My name is Laura Bloem and I am wife to Hans and Mom to daughter Quincy, and son Connor. I am a CAPPA (Childbirth and PostPartum Professional Association) certified Labor Doula and Childbirth Educator. My lifelong passion for babies, the miracle of birth, and the beauty I see in the nurturing pregnant woman, have inspired me to become a professional laboring assistant called a Doula. Most profoundly, my own birth experiences influenced my decision to become a childbirth doula. Having lived in Holland for six years prior to the birth of my first child, I was very excited about their standard of care (and caring) and the culture surrounding birth. Holland is known as the safest country in the world to give birth having the lowest maternal and infant mortality/morbidity rates. However, not being a native of the country, many things were lost in translation and, in hindsight, there was much more to know about giving birth. My husband was a real trooper and very loving during my labor, but he was not equipped with the knowledge to offer appropriate comfort. He could have used some assistance too. Gratefully,I have two very healthy children, but I believe the birthing process could have been less rough of a ride had I had more information and continued support. I also appreciate the couple who are giving birth long distances from the support of family and good friends. Lastly, as a woman, I feel very strongly that you and your partner have a "good birthing" experience based on your definition. As a doula, I will strive to help you achieve this experience and help you create a wonderful birth memory to last a lifetime. l ♥Helping families create happy memories one birth at a time♥ |
"When we ponder the nature of being human as spirit embodied in matter When we honor the strength & knowing of every birthing woman & baby And when we protect their tenderness & vulnerability Then we help birth a better future and a happier, healthier, more peaceful world" -Suzanne Arms
